Emergency DFTO Thermal Oxidizer Fabrication for Recycling Emissions

Emergency DFTO Thermal Oxidizer Fabrication for Recycling Emissions
Summary:

An oil recycling company in the Southwest needed a new thermal oxidizer shell ASAP. This case study shows how KKI came through despite supply chain challenges.

Type of Work:
Rebuild, Repair, Retrofit
Type of Equipment:
Thermal Oxidizer (TOX)
Process:
Recycling

Problem

An oil recycler had a failing thermal oxidizer. The internally insulated shell was deteriorating and nearing failure. Since the sub-systems such as fans, gas train, controls, and dampers were functioning well, a shell-only replacement was the least disruptive option. Lead time was a major concern due to potential catastrophic failure of the shell as well as the uncertain availability of metal during the 2021 supply chain challenges.

Solution

Kono Kogs was entrusted to fabricate, insulate and ship the replacement shell as quickly as possible, in hopes of a 6-8 week delivery. Steel and material needed for the shell manufacturing were secured prior to asking our customer to commit to the purchase. With the significant fabrication capability added at Kono Kogs since early 2021, including many modern forming and cutting machines and the great can-do attitude of our fabrication team, Kono Kogs was confident of success. We are grateful this first-time customer was willing to give us their trust.
